Toxic work environment, low pay, abuse from clients. You name it.
Vet techs are horribly underappreciated and grossly underpaid. After realizing people out here are making equal or more money with WAY less stress and responsibility, many bail out from this career path. All the veterinarians I have worked with seemed on the verge of a mental breakdown
I would venture to say our practice management is subpar and doesn't do much to help us, as the staff. Clients are also breathing on our necks. I try my hardest to do my job well and provide quality care to my patients. If I can go elsewhere and get paid better and have a better life, why shouldn't I?
Toxic environment, low pay, burnout , client abuse
The Vet field is just a very hard one to be in. Low pay, hard work and a lot of times abuse from clients. You have to have a real passion for it to be worth it.
There are incredible humans out there and some of the most wonderful animals. But with pay starting at $12 an hour, it's impossible to make a living. You can't pick and choose which animals to treat and need far more training and experience. We are often put in danger by aggressive animals. It's a lot.
This profession has a poor track record for balancing being an actual person who just so happens to have a job. So I do not blame anyone for leaving and doing anything else. People put so much effort into studying and trying to work in this field, and sometimes it's just not worth it due to bad management.
