I actually haven't noticed that so far. I would say the place I work is about 50% male 50% female
So I work in the wildlife rehab side of all of this. Most of my coworkers have been female. Most of the animal care staff are female, as well as the entire vet staff. When I first started we had a male vet and a male tech, and I’ve had a couple male coworkers. But not very many and not for very long. Could it have to do with the idea that women tend to be more nurturing?
When my vet tech class visited a school for people who would become veterinarians there was a wall of every graduate over the years. It was very interesting to find that for many years from when the college opened, only men were graduates as veterinarians. Eventually, this gradually changed and there were many more women graduating as veterinarians too.
I mention this because I believe the reason so many more women are in veterinary medicine is residual blue collar/pink collar culture where men are doctors and woman are nurses. As women we have this wonderful power of nurturing that is ideal for nursing positions. And hospitals need more nurses than doctors causing a majority of the staff to be women. Of course this isn't the case everywhere, but I've certainly noticed it at all clinics I've worked at.
