helping animals, variety in the job, and helping people (owners with their pets)

I enjoy meeting new people & animals... and creating a positive atmosphere for them both!

What I like about vet medicine is that you're not only treating animals, but also humans and the community. I know you feel underappreciated and overworked most of the time, but it's worth it to me because of the difference I'm making and the lives I'm changing.

One of the most obvious and rewarding aspects of being a veterinarian is the opportunity to work with animals. I just love being surrounded by them.

Going home and seeing the love in my own pets' eyes and knowing that I helped at least one other family feel that way every day is fantastic.

Whether you have a long-term patient breakthrough or meet folks who are simply so thankful for you, the work can be tremendously satisfying. It's mostly what you make of it.

I am constantly stressed, yet I enjoy my job. Five years later, it still amazes me that people bring their sick animals to me and trust me to make them better, or at the very least to explain what is wrong and help them understand.

The job can be very rewarding like when you have a long-term patient breakthrough or you meet people who are just so grateful for you. It's mostly what you make of it.

Sure, there are bad days, but everybody has bad days. You get to help people and animals and make a decent living doing it.

The teamwork, the mentorship, the challenge, the highs and lows, the pace, being able to make an immediate tangible difference in the lives of our patients/clients. So worth it.

I will say that being a vet is truly a calling, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I get a lot of satisfaction from my job. Clients are generally very thankful and kind. They know I care. I have a dresser drawer filled with thank you cards and pictures I have gotten over the years. I love being surrounded daily by many people who love animals as much as I do (staff and clients).

I need help. I think I’m being underpaid at my job I’ve been at for 3 1/2 years. I’m a full time receptionist for a veterinary hospital but I also manage the reception area (I answer all questions and if someone makes a mistake I’m the one the fix it) and am an in house trained veterinary assistant but can do a techs job (unlicensed) and I do help the technicians out anytime they need and I’m only getting paid $13 an hour while a crew member at arbys gets paid $15 . What should I do ?
