Always ask for sample deck. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. It's been done already somewhere in your firm. You just need to search/ask for it.

like

Learn how to align shit

like

Index-match is a better version of vlookup. It takes some getting used to at first but it’s super useful

like

^^^ so important

like

Excel: Managed names - i.e., named tables and named cells, VLOOKUPS, using SharePoint to share files and maintain single "versions”

Learn to use formulas for everything - updating a file should require updating inputs/assumptions only

like

Focus less on Excel and PowerPoint and more on the interactions with people and figuring out how to address the ambiguity in your assignments.

like

PPT... Format painter!

like

F4 in excel formulas - locks a cell when copying the formula

like

Look up a new shortcut every day and implement it. Also with power points if you need something quick and dirty, throw in some simple smart art to add some readability.

like

For PPT: No animations. Less text is more effective. Most of what you want to communicate should be in the (imaginary) triangle from the top left corner to the top right corner down to the bottom left corner (in wall of text presentations, people read across, then read less and less as they go down). Don't underestimate the "Tell them what you're going to tell them; tell them; tell them what you told them" narrative

like

For Excel: conditional formatting, KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS (the most important skill), pivot charts and tables, general data visualization principles (when to use bar chart vs line chart), and play around with the Developer editor if you want some rock star automated workbook shit.

like

Please please PLEASE freeze panes so we can see what you’re doing

like

EXCEL: F2 allows you to enter a cell without clicking into it. Use enter or tab to go to the next row or column PPT: Be careful when someone gives you a deck related to a different client. To be safe, I'll sometimes copy the content (not the slide) into a fresh deck. Client names get stuck somewhere in the Master slides due to constantly copying slides from various decks.

Learn the keyboard shortcuts... You'll save a ton of time. Also, index/match and the "ifs" equations are your best friends.

SDA 1how would you address that?
