What are some rewards you give yourself for doing small to moderate sized tasks? I’m spending too much money treating myself like a puppy every time I do something I don’t want to do (which is all day as I hate this job). It can’t be like scrolling or gaming or tv time as I’ll just get lost and do that all day.

Only thing that has worked that doesn’t cost money is to text back the person I’ve been seeing but only after I finish task X. Problem is this won’t work when you’re not seeing someone or if you don’t have a pending text from them, so not exactly a long term solution.

like

Can you set a timer if you treat yourself with scrolling? Like I’ll give myself 15 mins on insta it if I finish something. But a timer could be helpful to snap you back to reality because doom scrolling is real.

like

Even with the timer I keep scrolling for hours past the timer unless I’m having a very focused day

like

If I get X number of tasks done in Y time, I get to go on a walk.

Alternatively, I’ve noticed that if I don’t stop working, the day flies by. But if I stop and then try to goof off, it drags

helpful

Yes I’ve noticed that too. On productive days I get so much done. On unproductive days it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

I’m 3 months into a new job where I work for a global tech company, and I want to ask for a pay review from my manager at the 6 month mark when I pass probation.
I know I’m going above and beyond my responsibilities as I’m not just managing projects, but I’ve also set up a global PMO governance board and have identified gaps within other teams where I’m assisting with the solution.

Is it acceptable for me to be asking this from my manager, and if so how do I raise this?

Hi all,
I've applied for the role of Sr Internal Auditor (L5) in Amazon India. And in the preliminary form they are asking for the expected CTC
Would appreciate if someone could let me know the salary range for that role
My current CTC in EY is ~ 16.7 LPA including variable component and the raise for the coming year is yet to be announced

Thanks in advance

Does anyone work in an area with lots of exterior environmental noise (traffic, concerts, trains, etc.) and have tips for not becoming overwhelmed and/or distracted by it? I’m finding that environmental noise has increased near my office now that tourism has picked back up in my city, and I’m struggling to block it out. I’ve tried earplugs but the noises tend to vibrate my office building so the earplugs don’t work well as an entire block.

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.

New midlevel associate at a big law firm and still ramping up. I’m having a lot of trouble tackling small or discrete tasks that are either administrative in nature or otherwise because I don’t have a full plate and something to focus on. There’s been some posts on the best planning tools (e.g. planners, calendars, etc.), but my question is how do ppl make sure they use them? I get them and am excited about the possibility of them helping for about a week then I just stop using it. Even if I find it helpful I just never stay consistent with it. Does this happen to others? Any tricks or suggestions to stay consistent using planners, to do lists, calendars, etc.
