There’s been some posts on the best planning tools (e.g. planners, calendars, etc.), but my question is how do ppl make sure they use them? I get them and am excited about the possibility of them helping for about a week then I just stop using it. Even if I find it helpful I just never stay consistent with it. Does this happen to others? Any tricks or suggestions to stay consistent using planners, to do lists, calendars, etc.

I only get spiral bound planners and leave them open in a spot I can’t miss. It makes it easier not to forget about it!

Personally, I had to reflect on what prevented me from creating the habit of using (insert new planning tool here) before I could find a system that worked. I ultimately realized that as much as I like cute planners, I don’t like having to carry them around everywhere, or writing down lists at the end of every day. I now use my phone calendar/ task app and find it much easier to be consistent

Start with what you currently use, and then upgrade to a better but similar version. I started with sticky notes, I couldn’t go to a written list for some reason. I got virtual sticky notes, used them with great success. Once I got into that habit, I switched to an excel to do list that stays permanently open on its own screen

Thanks for the feedback! Do you capture work and personal to do items in the same list?

Personal items- I’m incredibly fortunate to be married to a type A control freak who is all about calendar entries for every event, and she gives me a written to-do-list every day.

Throughout the day I’ll tell her things we need jointly done and I’ll ask her to remind me of certain items I need personally to-do; both make it on the list along with items she needs me to do.

She’s by no means my assistant, but we’ve found this system works. Things don’t get dropped anymore

My wife is exactly the same, and she definitely helps me out with my organization and not forgetting things. I was hoping to lessen the burden on her. She is more than happy to help, I just feel bad that she has to manage so much

I do this too honestly. So I had to find the best planner that worked for me. Some of them are just far too overwhelming and that causes me to not use it at all.

Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?

As I’ve applied for other firms, I’ve been denied interviews based on how my boss is perceived in the community. I’ve gathered professional references from opposing attorneys and other attorneys we work with but still can’t land. Help

How do you manage keeping track of and responding to teams chats and emails in a timely manner? I have a hard time addressing chats when I am focused on something else, because I know it will completely derail me. But then I forgot to circle back to the chat when I’m done and I’ve recently been told that my response time is unacceptable and needs to improve, but I’m truly unsure how to improve.

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.

One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?
