Mother's Day and Father's Day can be tough for some kids. As a social worker, I typically have at least one or two kids that need support.
You are right about that OP. I have several kids every year who need a little extra support and struggle on these holidays.
This is a great question! I have helped some students think of ideas or make cards for their mothers before. It seems that elementary teachers do more of these types of things, but I like to supply my students with the materials to at least make and write nice cards for Mother's Day if they want to. :)
I think allowing older students the time and providing the supplies is beautiful! Many of them don't think or remember this special day.
We make cards for our mommies, we write short letters and attached them to the cards. We create acrostic poems with the letters: Mom or Mother. I buy tea bags and we design paper tea pots to staple the tea bags into, and create Mommy coupons for the day or week. The ideas are endless!!!
Awww so cute! I love the handprints but I know those are messy and time consuming!
Since I taught at the middle level, (recently retired) I incorporated it into our poetry unit. I had students pick the type of poetry I taught that they wanted to use(except acrostic) and make it about mom or a special woman in their lives. (I’ve had many students who have lost mom to breast cancer, accidents, etc.) After they write, type, and print it, they put it in a card format and illustrate it, or paste photos/designs on it. They then make an envelope and are ready to present it to mom or their special woman. Many moms, aunts, or guardians have commented how nice it was to get this card.
This sounds amazing! I would really have loved something like this for my older son, after like 2nd grade the homemade things stopped coming home.
Our first grade has a Mother’s Day spa where the mothers/mother figures come in and get manicures and pedicures and a massage by their little ones. They also make a sugar scrub, spa certificates, and a letter for their moms. It’s really cute!
Oh wow! This sounds intense but I bet those Mommas really love this special bonding time!
We made a bouquet of flowers out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners. They glued tissue paper on 4 precut circles and when dry chose the color pipe cleaner to be taped on. I then took ribbon to wrap around the bundle
How precious! Those crumpled up flowers are gonna be the best things those Moms get! I love it when my babies bring me these kinds of crafts!
