Well. How bad is it chief?
I failed a background check once because I put the wrong year for a job mistakenly... They just asked for Check stubs or a W2. After providing that, my background was approved.
I am going through background check at Visa Europe (UK) and I am finding "Sterling" background check is the most appalling process I have ever encountered. They have this so called "backend team", who never bothers to read information or check documents uploaded. Their front end service consists of a few people sitting in an Indian office and have no access to any information other than what you know anyway. They cannot / do not talk to each other. They will write findings that have no justification and you cannot find explanation or more information. It is almost unbelievable that Visa Europe uses this company for verification. On the other hand, Visa Europe onboarding team seems to be sleeping all day, no email reply, no phone call - terrible !
How off were the dates?
Oh yeah they will have an issue with that. A coworker of mine did the same and he got fired. We worked at KPMG.
Depends if it’s a month off or 6 months off. How big was the fib?
I've been doing Uber off and on since 2015. Took
a couple years off and then started again during Covid, but didn't know the exact start date until
called Uber to get the starting date for the
background form. It's about 8 months off
Lol need more details here

Don’t worry about it. It’s acceptable to have dates that don’t match what you indicated and what the investigator gets. For as long as they’re within an acceptable range (months not years apart).
My dates didn’t match either and I once failed a background check (long funny story). Usually, if it’s a concern with HR (like mine) they will contact you for context and clarification and pass you (like mine).
Even DUIs get passed so don’t worry too much. Most times it’s the federal convictions and sex offender registry that get failed flat out.
