If you want a niche practice - go with SALT, International is great for transferring offices (or firms or even counties), Core is a safe bet.
SALT - you will work on multiple different projects daily and avoid being stuck in compliance hell.
Core, you'll get more exposure to different clients and different tax work. You can learn what you like and more importantly what you don't. Allowing you to pick later and "specialize" (if you want) in the areas you like working on
Generally Core if you want to be more marketable should you plan to leave, but it is much more compliance and provision heavy. International and SALT if you want more tax planning experience and specialization. SALT most likely makes you the least marketable outside pub accting, and is generally more well-suited for attorneys.
Thank you everyone! Made the decision. SALT here I come.
While attorneys are well represented in SALT, the majority of people in my group are accountants. SALT gives you both compliance and consulting experience. I am an accountant, and I now am exclusively doing consulting work. I have been doing SALT work for 3 years and am very happy to have made that choice.
Definitely core because you will get more exposure of different tax returns. This will give you more opportunities in future if you want to start your own business.
Core is great for exposure to provision, compliance and state. International is a great niche and can be lucrative if you ever leave public accounting
Congrats! Welcome to the family :) make sure you don't just do compliance though, ask to be included on consulting projects as well.
