Just so we're clear, PE/VC roles are among the rarest types of exits from McKinsey and BCG as well.
I've also seen people exit to VC from ZS, but not common. I think MBB people would get an easier time Lansing roles in strategy teams unless you have very relevant experience from ZS

Not much. Maybe some more prestige focused banking opportunities? Racking my brain to think of a situation. Certainly 95% of industry is open to you either way.
Some start-ups as well as strategy roles within Life Sciences companies will be (much) easier to get to with McK / BCG
ZS’s brand is variable depending on the person’s exposure to ZS teams (ie only sales or basic-ish analytics) but McK / BCG have a solid brand in strategy
That being said, it’s ALL about how you pitch yourself. I know people who have gone to wherever from ZS - but depending on the role, expect to be surrounded by more people from BCG / McK
Would agree with this based on my personal (n=1) experience. Have had a couple of people assume i worked on sales-ish topics based on their exposure to ZS but was able to get a few VC/Strategy interviews based on relevant project experience. YMMV
Can still get PE roles at a T2 firm
I’ve heard rumors that certain roles at Novartis would only go to MBB. Less explicitly, I’ve had recruiters tell me that ZS is not known for strategy so I may have to explain people out of that assumption / might face some unspoken bias when recruiting
