This is a broader answer than what you asked about, but I worked in Chicago for a long time. To make quality money nowadays, in Chicago or anyplace else, a strat person has to be able to take their skills and eventually be ultimately driving toward positions that put them in a “line” role vs “staff”. Example, elevate into being the Client Lead in a place like Accenture/Accenture Song. The reason is that those places value that the lead can be a “thought leader” for a client and interact not only with the client, but also the broader consulting organization. Those positions are $300+, but you also have to embrace that the “relationship”/your career is ultimately a series of projects, so you have to be regularly rustling up new revenue. Alternatively, growing into being a CMO of a smaller company is a possibility - and I have seen a number of those. Net - be moving toward line roles that put you at the sharp end of the stick in terms of driving operational outcomes.
Hope this is helpful.
From “expensed a latte” to “expensed a lifestyle.” In other words, the gravy train is over. Get used to sardines.
For a low ball figure the “global strat director” on Cadillac was on $150k.
