What are the tips and tricks to waking up earlier (besides going to bed earlier)? I can’t wake up for my life of me and have been waking up minutes before my first call.

Buy some super risky stocks so that you have trouble sleeping all night and wake up at 5am every day in a cold sweat.

Jk. That’s me.

Schedule a call with one of your friends or family members an hour before your work call

Make sure the last time you eat is 3 hours before you try to go to bed, don’t use your phone or laptop for 30 minutes before going to bed, drink a small glass of water right before you go to sleep, drink a glass of water right after you wake up, no caffeine after 5 (some people say noon), make your alarm to where you have to physically leave your bed to turn it off. That’s every trick I know

I’m trying not to overeat before bedtime so that I feel hungry in the morning
And you know - nothing can stop me from eating, even a good sleep

Exercise (e.g., go on a run when you first wake up). This only works for me if I go to bed earlier.

This sounds silly, but if you can psych yourself up for the call the night before it helps me a lot. “I am going to crush this one part... I am proud of the work I’ve been doing and look forward to sharing...”

It sounds basic and lame but works even for the boring calls.

Have something fun to look forward to in the morning, for example I really enjoy going for a short 20 minute run every morning then having coffee on my balcony for 30 mins. That way I look forward to the hour before work.

I remember watching a video about how jumping out of bed immediately helps. The first few minutes you'd feel awful, but it's such a short pain compared to the constantly snoozing and falling back asleep.

I was once a contractor to a school system. The day was 7am to 3 pm. Our cat got used to being fed very early. She’s hasn’t stopped wanting to be fed that early. I now always get up that early.

Moral of the story: Have a cat, get up early.

Program your phone to send a risky text that can only be turned off be entering a complex password.

Starting a new job next month, and considering taking two days off for kids’ spring break next month. Not sure whether it’s appropriate to request time off for a new job (I would’ve preferred not to take any time off for first three months). I may just be able to just ask for a single Friday off (so 1 day rather than 2 days).

Any thoughts on whether I should proceed with the request? I just came from big law and want to make sure I’m not making a bad impression on my colleagues.

Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?
