What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Totally valid ask. QC Managers add real revenue impact. I would negotiate a small percentage, like 1–2% of closed deals that you directly influence. Framing it as incentive-based and tied to clear metrics will help get leadership on board.
How is this not a conflict of interest?
From an audit perspective, tying a QC Manager's compensation to sales commission could create incentives that might compromise their objectivity and the integrity of the quality control processes.
If a QC Manager's income is directly linked to sales, there could be pressure, either explicit or implicit, to overlook or downplay quality issues to ensure a sale goes through and they receive their commission. This directly undermines the core function of quality control.
If it becomes known that the QC Manager is compensated based on sales, it could erode trust in the quality control process both internally (among other departments) and externally (with customers).
