Being really kind and open minded - I would say it has made me an asset for the most part, but sometimes it’s refrained me from being more assertive as a leader and fighting for what I actually want - when most westerners are trained to say see the word in black and white. Internally I can be like, “Puede…” 😆 and maybe too willing to compromise.
But again it’s been great for the most part.

I mean—we have no toxic traits, we are simply amazing diba? 😉

For me, getting into the engineering industry. I’d like to think I’m smart but a less than stellar personality. I’m not the best at interviews and I feel like my hispanic name also doesn’t help.

If I was a nurse, I’d get a job at any moment. I don’t know any filipino in tech and I live in the SF bay area. I’ve met a few but they’re friends of friends, so not really in my circle and usually not a SWE.

Yeah, its super rare to see filipinos in corp jobs generally. Im not an engineer, more in the biz side, but i barely see us anywhere! And yeh, the name thing. It can suck. All my filipino friends are doing non-corp work, from more artistic or healthcare. I wonder why…

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

I feel like working from home has been the death of my dating life. I used to at least go on 4 dates a month, and I was casually seeing a guy for a while. Post covid, I love my work-life balance but I'm never out. I can't meet people sitting at my desk, and I have no local coworkers to pull me out of the house for happy hour.

My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. She receives all my end of day updates, is cc’d on all emails, makes me fill out 5 repetitive excel/smart sheet, and joins all my meetings but she still wants to call having me 5x daily about updates. I’m always the one to go to if other recruiters fail to meet client deadlines and cleaning up recruiters mistakes. How do I even handle this to begin with?
