What do you do when you've got three rounds of feedback and it's always 'the copy still isn't fitting' What kind of questions can we ask that would help us get more pointed feedback? Besides the fact that it's extremely frustrating to write and rewrite and get nowhere, I'm upset that plenty of copywriters on our team have attempted to make this client happy but can't. They love the art team's work and it almost feels like that's the only reason they stick around with our agency!

- What in particular isn’t fitting?
- Do you have an example (previous work, competitors’ copy, etc.) that could help guide us?
- Compared to previous versions, what works better? What works worse?
- Is there a broader goal/narrative/tone I may not be aware of?

You can also talk with the art team to see if there’s something you’re missing or if you can improve your drafting/revision process.

I think the only way to get pointed feedback is to ask for it. Yo have to be specific with your questions so the client can be specific with their answers. I feel sorry that you're dealing with a tough client but it's part of the grind. Keeps you focussed and humble. At least, that's how I saw and it really helped me grow in my career and forge great client relationships!

I recently joined TW some months back and I dont know why I think have made a wrong choice for myself. I am feeling like I am lost. I am not able to fit in in this high expectations environment. Also there is no pairing in my project. Any suggestions on what should be done would be welcome.

I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?

My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at
Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.

L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

RANT: People re-writing a cw’s stuff has always been painful. These days it’s far more common than when I started. It’d be one thing if they upgraded the work. If I learned from it. If I genuinely seethed with envy over their wit w/that perfectly placed semi-colon. People can’t re-art direct stuff bc they don’t know the programs so they ask the ADs for changes. Word and a keyboard made everyone think they can write. Which they can’t. Google Slides is Google slip ‘n slide into (bad ref. here.)
