So here is some advice - I was the guy chasing the career when I was in the Air Force, 24/7/365 home and overseas. Then I lost a lot of friends in a single incident and it was a wake up call that I was missing life. What I’ve found in consulting that if you have perspective (it’s only a PowerPoint) and good people relationships you can do super well while making time for family; you may miss a few minor things but it’s a deal breaker to miss anything major. Just remember life is fleeting and it could be gone in a blink of an eye so enjoy it, work hard to make the money to do fun stuff but don’t over index on work.
Nobody reads out your resume at the funeral.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t work hard to establish a rewarding (in all senses of the word) career, but what matters at the end of the day is the people that you love.
My grandfather was a carpenter and then a factory worker. But he was active in his community throughout his entire life, always ready to lend a helping hand - I have never seen a more well attended end-of-life ceremony.
I prioritize making enough to afford my needs, not wants. Advertising, marketing and social media can make some people feel that they need more, or deserve more. A better car. A better home. Better vacations.
People I know that chase money are never satisfied because their goals keep increasing.

I try to strike a balance between career and family, but it is hard. Having a supportive spouse/partner helps a lot, but there are sacrifices that has to be made. It’s not a surprise to see a lot of successful people that have broken marriages and poor relationships with their families, Elon Musk for example.
Depends on your stage of life.
