The best are small mutual companies.
Acuity is one of them. A claims adjuster I’m currently working with on a total loss auto claim, has told me they treat their employees like gold. I love them as a carrier and write new personal lines business with Acuity every week. They’re phenomenal
Progressive out of the big companies from what I've heard
Nope, not for me. 15 plus years before I was fortunate enough to find something else, and the last 5 of those years was absolute hell. When I left, I found out just how "competitive" their payscale was. It wasn't.
Definitely not Statefarm even tho it wasn't on the list. It is TOXIC
No big carriers. Period.
What do you mean work/life balance is suffering? Are they changing the hybrid.
The Hartford, hands down and they are usually always hiring.
I’ve worked for four. They all have pros and cons. My advice to anyone who is just starting out, do not go in to claims. If you want to be in the insurance industry, sales, actuarial or underwriting is your best bet.
I worked through Teleperformance doing USAA. It was the worst ever. You have to look up 1underwriting to even take a payment or change anything. Plus we were not allowed to take zero notes. No . pencils in desk. They would ask you to take your camera and showed them your desk at a moments notice to check your desk. It didn't happen for me because I didn't stay long enough.
Allstate gives you a lot of PTO and flex time but the workload is incredibly insane.
Progressive 100%, supervisor here, best company I’ve ever worked for period
Travelers is beyond toxic. You are only a metric to be measured, not a human.
Can 100% confirm this! Abusive manager(s) that got promoted and/or passed around the system. "Toxic" is accurate.
USAA is a great company and organization.
I second that after having worked at home office for 2 years
Why would you want to be captive?
I would have said nationwide but since Covid the company has gone down hill significantly. Executive leaders are pushing people out in an effort to save bottom line. Agents flat out quit writing for us because we are so hard to work with and they’re offshoring every role they can which is only making the service worse. They Executives are making it toxic beyond belief that even those not facing layoffs hate it.
All companies are offshoring everything, more than half of my responsibilities. But they swear no layoffs are coming. It's sickening to know that people here are willing to do the work and they strip it right from us for cheaper labor.
None of the ones you listed.
Progressive
Acuity Insurance hands down. They do things you couldn’t even imagine for their employees.
How can I get into underwriting?
based on what i know and now selling insurance:
liberty mutual probably not as they recently announced the nonrenewal of their entire CA auto book.
GEICO probably not as they have no exclusive agents in CA and all their work is based out of a call center and no agencies for clients to receive policy services
I cannot remember the last time i’ve written a Nationwide policy, let alone find a way to insure someone with Nationwide in CA as long as I’ve known them.
Only bet is USAA sounding like the best of those options, considering I havent heard of any terrible news regarding them axing policies or employees from their company.
I have written so many policies in the past for Liberty Mutual. Then they non renew . How do they get away with that?
Having worked at USAA in San Antonio before moving back home to Chicagoland….phenomenal organization. I would’ve never left USAA based on their benefits, alone. When I left I began my insurance experience into working for small independent agencies, transitioning into national brokerages. I loved working for a direct writing company.
I have an interview today @10:30 with
Progressive
Lol Allstate not even on the list.
