What is everyone’s policy about when OT kicks in? After how many hours in a day? What about weekend rates? Specifically NY.

I’m in an agency in LA. OT kicks in for me after 8 hours daily, or 40 hours weekly (so weekend it’s automatically OT). After 12 hours I get double time, but happens rarely.

like

Same as AE1. I make sure in my emails I give my day rate and clarify it’s for “up to 8 hrs, then 1.5x, & 2x after 12 hrs. Some people give push back and asked for 10hr days but I just say sorry no & then it’s fine

like

Oh & weekend rates are automatic 1.5x day rate then 2x after 8hrs

like

Lots of people tell me 10hr day is standard. Is that not true?

like

It’s in anyone hiring’s best interest to tell you a 10hr day is standard. Just say you operate on an 8hr day. You’re being screwed out of hundreds of dollars of OT every single day by missing those 2 hrs of x1.5

like

@editor1 this is exactly why I wanted to open up this conversation. I’m in NY and people have always said the 10 hour day is standard so that’s what I quote. (With the understanding I don’t always work the full 10 but get the full rate) But I don’t want to keep quoting that if I can get OT after 8!

In practice it’s 8 hours 95% on the time, but next time I’m asked I’ll tell em.

It's my first month in a new job as Product Owner. I went from a company that digital product development was their secondary focus along with consultancy services, to a company that their only focus is the product. The difference in scale as well as the different domain, certainly feeds into my imposter syndrome. What are the things I should focus to achieve within my first few months at the new job?

How do you calculate your years of experience? Curious-if I include roles outside of my current dept I have 8. If only counting production, 3. How does that impact your salary negotiations?

Negotiating with EY for M/SM Tech Consulting. I have 15 years experience, skills are in demand and my interviews went extremely well. 1. What are the salary ranges for M and SM in NYC. 2. I am told it is only going to be a M now, for my own benefit-no EY network means failure at selling. Whats the highest salary I can negotiate at M. Any other tips will be handy. I have "sold" (support on sales & new roles through relationships) plus I have solid delivery experience. I really want SM 😀😀😀 EY

Does your agency have any revision requests you always turn away as a rule of thumb?

I'm working on establishing our video department and I pretty much have to start from scratch as far as client/internal understanding of the video process goes (we are a fairly small agency). Any other general advice would be awesome as well.

Does anyone know a good website where I can search for movie clips based on categories “man mowing lawn” etc.

What would you do in this situation? I signed a schedule A for one weeks work at Company A for $600 per day and then company B offered me 2 weeks work at $800 per day.

Thinking about making the jump from senior level in-house to freelance. 12+ years experience. Shoot, edit, color, after effects, mix, etc. What kind of day rate could I expect in Mpls or Chi?

Yet again I’m watching a client fuck up a nice spot so bad I can’t put it in my reel. Absolutely disheartening.

Does anyone include a bit on invoices like "Accounts not paid within terms are subject to a .75% monthly (9% annual) finance charge" or something like that?

Tangentially, has anyone had an invoice with 30-day terms kicked back for revisions because the client's terms are longer, or do they just ignore what you've stipulated?

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.
