Hi Fishes, Y.O.E 7.5+ years. Tata Consultancy TCS is offering 25LPA including variable pay and everything. So just 15% increment on my current salary since they mentioned I am leaving my current organization within 1 year.
They mentioned 8-12% is VP plus 80k from that salary is paid at the end of each year. Is it a good enough salary for 7.5+ yoe candidate. Also any heads up for the things I should look out for will be really helpful.

Is this a large apparel company or a local one? Also are you a fan of the apparel you’ll be making?
Working at a local apparel maker was my first job out of college. I am happy for what I learned and the relationships I made, but four years was enough for me.
Where are you at in your career? Have you been designing for years? Would this be your first job? I think having some direction is important because I felt lucky myself. Most, if not all, my coworkers worked in apparel and stuck with it. That’s all they know.
I like variety. Also, my old job left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m not saying this is how it works everywhere, but my boss would go shopping, take photos of clothes and send to potential buyers to see if they liked any of the styles.
Then if the client did like it, us creatives were between a rock and a hard place because we had to switch things up a bit but couldn’t change it too much since that’s what the client approved. To my knowledge I think the company got sued twice for doing something like that. 😂
I think my favorite part of my job was creating the Spring and Fall lines for Bass Pro Shops and I’m not an outdoorsy person myself.
Sorry that was long but how it helps. Feel free to message me privately if you have any other questions.
Hello there! I just wanted to say this has been insightful. In connection to this, I'm wondering if you have any advice on how to deal with client / project plateau? I've always worked as a freelance / project-based. I'm close to considering an in-house studio role but not sure how to navigate towards that line (or if I should)
That sounds, at first, like it could be really interesting. But, like all jobs, it depends on what you'll actually be working on. If you're designing fabrics it could be fascinating, if you're designing more pedestrian business items, ads and such, it could be fairly boring. Try to get a handle on what you'll actually be doing and decide based on how interesting it will be for you personally.
I started not in my desired niche, and it was an experience I enjoyed looking back on now. Learned a lot, and it did help me get to where I wanted to be. If you feel like the company is a decent enough opportunity, at least think about it.
