I think Instagram is crucial, and niche Facebook groups are also really helpful for driving traffic.
For example, my artwork is mostly dark surrealism, and Halloween fits in perfectly with my brand. So lately I’ve been posting a lot more in Halloween enthusiast groups on FB, sharing new works and even just interacting in threads that have nothing to do with my art. Oftentimes I’ll use Facebook to drive traffic to my Instagram page instead of directly to my site; that way it’s more of a signal to get to know me and my business rather than just “here’s where you can buy my stuff”.
On Instagram there’s a wonderful community of artists and makers who have a similar audience to me, so building those relationships is key as we’ll drive traffic to each other’s pages by sharing one another’s work. I’ve gotten a big bump in traffic to both my Instagram and my online shop because connections with a similar target audience but way bigger following than me have shared my work. Plus, it’s delightful to just get to know other creative people who have a lot in common with me.
It’s all about real, meaningful connections.
Thank you for such a detailed response, look like I def. have more work to do
Also Etsy, go where the customers go. IG for sure, FB for some but Etsy for all.
