What will we do once AI can do my current job? Am I doom and gloom or is it a valid question? I am currently in process documentation and optimization and although it’s not good enough yet, AI has gotten significantly better in the past 2 years. Am I just SOL after the programs get good enough unless I pivot myself?

Your assessment is correct, unless AI hits a wall. This is a rare time in history that doesn’t happen often.

Disappointed though

It’s doom and gloom for your area for sure. Some AI stuff is overhyped or a few years out but process documentation type work is already toast

:(

If it helps, literally every single person in every single industry is feeling this way right now. None of us feels safe. My sister-in-law is a doctor and is worried about AI. One of my close friends is a lawyer and is worried about AI. Pretty much everybody is.

Thanks, that helps a lot

Maybe it’s a good thing. Lots of jobs are kind of useless. Agentic AI can back and forth among each other and we can focus on building cool things that matter.

It’s bad if there’s nowhere to go

I try to pay attention to the debates about AI and I keep going back and forth from thinking it might take over to thinking it's largely a lot of hype. I accept that it can do some things very well, like pulling together a lot of research quickly. There are also issues of accuracy, which is not nothing. I still believe anything requiring human judgment won't be replaced, as AI tools can mimic, but they can't think. At least not yet.

I give it 20 years

Well, AI can’t sell Consulting work, so not too worried.

Guess Ill move to sales then

Get out and pivot now. If you aren't growing, you are dying.

Will do, thanks

Don’t just worry about your job, it’ll also be replacing our clients and therefore reducing the number of potential buyers in the market…

My anxiety makes me good at my job. My incessant checking, and double checking, and analyzing has earned me praise, trust, and early promotions. Sometimes I wonder, if I were to take medication to give myself some relief, and to stop the panic attacks, would I be less productive? And then I wonder, do I value my own health so little? But I’m so validated by my performance...sad isn’t it? Hope I’m not alone.
