If this is client direct, not via agency, I’d charge a project fee (ie flat rate). Clients just want to know how much a job will cost, they don’t work in hours scoping like agencies do.
Start by forecasting how many hours you think it’ll take you. Round up if you’re not sure. Then add a couple more, in case you find you need more time. Then a couple more for client review and 1-2 rounds of edits (as specified by your scope). Times that by your hourly rate, round up again to make it a clean number and you’ve got your project fee!
You should also be asking if they have a budget range in mind for the job. Sometimes you’ll be surprised that their range is 10x what you’d ever thought of putting to them, or perhaps 10x less and pitching the work would be a waste of both your time.
