I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Busy season continues

Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

I feel like a lot of these are dependant on management, like every job tbh!
Data Entry and Admin are 50/50 stress tolerance. It depends on the staff, leadership, and inefficient workflows. You may have to go mini Bob Ross on your lunch break with the Crayolas to find some chill.
Yes definitely depends on the management. I’ve worked in places that on paper should be laid back, but were stressful cause of terrible people. I’ve also worked in places that genuinely sound like I should be tearing my hair out but the people have been so lovely I barely felt it! Totally depends. Makes it harder to take the leap and leave some jobs.
Cleaner 👍
Oh really? What makes you say that, is the the autonomy?
Red flags are apparent when you read job descriptions as an auditor.
The least technical positions can be some of the most arduous, while the most technically demanding positions can be the healthiest for you. It is all a matter of compay culture, corporate policy standards, and business ethics. If those are misaligned the position is irrelevant you will pay a cognitive tax.
Be ruthless and unyielding in vetting the company you choose to work for regardless of the position, and you will find the type of role you are looking for.
That said, if there is anything that you felt was absent in your previous role, perhaps look for a position that incorporates or helps to develop that.

I think being a fitness instructor at a gym sounds like a pretty great gig. Ensures you are consistently moving and being conscious of your health. Also a great way to build community.
Ooh that reminds me, when I was at school I had to take a careers quiz and got Personal Trainer haha. Funnily enough I’m just not a “gym” type person. It does seem like a good gig though!
