Has to be the CTO role IMO. MM Ops is a dime a dozen in comparison.
CTO role sounds cooler
TC and location for the roles? PE would likely open up more roles into other funds and you can always do a CTO role after, but think it would be difficult to break into PE later if you go with CTO now.
Go with c suite public - MM Ops Principal not equiv imo. Would be harder if you were investment team
Depends what you want from your job. And what sector the CTO role is in - energy, tech etc makes a massive difference.
I’d go for PE - it’s more hands on usually and more freedom, colleagues are likely to be bright as well.
I’d be a principal
LMM or UMM? And which better aligns with your sectoral focus?
These are pretty vastly different jobs and cultures so what are we doing here? Like truthfully, I am curious to know what you're fishing for - prestige or something?
And if you say exit opportunities, you should do neither because thats a terrible mindset going into a job.
Without PE comp hard to compare. Would reco go for CTO role, achieve great results and if you still want PE you have better chances to join as PE Ops MD/partner at MM fund. Would be a different story if it were Principal/Director role at PE MF.
