Part of the KT team. Basically a much more work life balance role, you support CT teams sometimes a couple at a time. Usually minimal travel to the client. You focus on specific PA. If you want to do high burn traditional consulting work across variety of industries this is probably not the role for you.
People on here would have you believe that it’s a shitty research role with less talented people in it. I would say that’s not true. Cons are limited upward mobility, and slower career development, less prestige, lower pay.
There are some really good KT people though, and some that are incredibly smart and want a role with 50 hours a week and limited travel. I would say some of the smartest KT people are way better than much of CT and equal to some of the best CTers, just depends on what you want.
Also, this is a CT opinion btw. KT is not my cup of tea but I’m trying to be unbiasedz
If it’s like our role with a similar title, it’s someone who performs research for project teams and/or manages a practice’s IC. So e.g. if you need to know everything there is to know about liquified natural gas, they would help you identify the right sources.
BCG1 nailed it - better WLB than CT about 40-50 hours/week directly supporting CT with client engagements, building IP, etc specifically for one practice. Also very correct in the slower career progression and much lower pay compared to industry and CT
Great insight - thx folks. What's the pay progression? Close to frozen from where you start or is there a noticeable increase from year to year?
Unsure, would need actual KTer to answer that. Might depend on reviews and PA?
