I don’t like how the data AI is trained upon is based on work and expertise of individuals who posted their passions and teachings online, without their permission or direct knowledge that they are being leveraged to train AI.

Good point, it exploits people who have come up with the training data
Today, ai directly impacts the work of artists but tomorrow it’ll be all persons within our society. There’ll be many less jobs in the future outside of tasks related to advanced reasoning, advanced manual labor, and humans checking machine output.
I’m a firm believer that artists are getting the brunt of today’s models like Dalle, but in the future human-created idea-led artwork with flaws will become highly sought after as one of the few great creations left from our species. As an illustrator the models still struggle to create precise illustrations of complex systems. I hope that keeps her comfortable and excited about parts of her work that can’t easily be replaced.

Great point, everyone in the future will be affected/dependent on AI
Societal dependency is something that scares me a lot.
If a product or tool exists that can do something efficiently, that's one thing. But, the rate of adoption is another. Deference of independent thought creates an illusion of safety and productivity, leaving bigger obstacles long term.
We are just barely coming to terms with the impact of digital natives on society. 2-3 entire generations exist now, who have never known a world without the internet. With the democratization of information, Education is under attack, all points of view are being seen as equally valid, and a high percentage of adults are incapable of forming a socratically logical argument.
What will a world full of ai-natives look like? What happens when a learning model is removed or replaced, abused or corrupted? As society depends more on AI, does humanity become better? Or, do we stop participating in our own development?

These are great points
I worry a lot about the increasing use of AI in healthcare. It’s an amazing tool, but I work in the industry and know firsthand how inaccurate some of the recommendations can be.
Plus, AI in healthcare inherently relies on the “learned intermediary” concept of the physician or other clinician and their *critical* review the recommendations from the AI to ensure they agree with what is being proposed before documentation is finalized or a care / treatment decision is made. The reality is that anyone who works in health IT knows that the care provider - even with the best intentions - is going to default many times to AI recommendations without thorough review or critical analysis, and given the bias inherent in health-related AI, that is a problem.

This is a good point
Aw, that's sad. I can't even imagine what she's going through. I think almost everyone is dealing with this at some level, their skills being replaced by an AI-powered tool. I think we'll make it through and find our way in the new world that this is becoming.
Mentor
That's tragic, but I think buying something human made will be a status symbol in the future
That's really sad, I feel for her. For me it's seeing all the AI generated slop online and the "dead internet" theory becoming more and more of a reality. It's hard to know what's real, what's AI, what's bots, etc etc etc. It makes me nostalgic for the earlier days of the internet.

Very nostalgic for the early internet
I have a boutique creative marketing firm I used for 25 years. AI put them out of business because the choice between almost free and 80% there is easy when compared to 100% there and expensive.

That's crazy, thanks for sharing

I think AI developing at such a pace will make everyone a generalist since they don't need to go deep into any one topic
