What’s the best way to transition into AI engineering without a degree?
I’m 20, work full-time and earn £2,500 after tax.

1. Self-taught route – Learn AI engineering through online courses, certifications, and hands-on projects while keeping my job. This includes Python, machine learning, deep learning, open-source contributions, and freelancing.

2. Apprenticeship route – Get a Software Engineering apprenticeship and transition into AI/ML. However, this would mean a big pay cut.

Companies tend to not to train people, they just expect you to know things and be able to dive into the deep end.

Self taught all the way. You need working projects over certificates. Think of a common AI use case, form an entire solution, write about it, understand it inside and out, publish it, go in search of a buyer to set up that type of solution as a consultant. Keep expanding your projects and repeating it for others until you find a good niche or get hired on at a company.

Get a degree it helps in the long run.....

I have 3, they all do nothing. ALL 3 are deprecated and I'm in tech. 32k wasted. DO NOT get a degree in tech, get a trade degree it goes further these days

Wait 3 years, AI will engineer you.

The best advice: STAY WHERE YOU ARE. There is no degree for Ai yet, it's moving too fast. There is no internship, and they don't train, so don't dump your job for a dream rn. Wait a bit

Anyone know much about the start up scene in E Africa? I hear a lot of general talk about how it’s ‘booming’ but can’t find much information online. So I have been made an offer by a company I like but it’s pretty similar to my current package (I also like where I am). The recruiter is pretty intense and is pitting me against another candidate but says I’m the number one choice and is asking me for a number to say yes “but not too high or the team will look at the other candidate”
I’m close to send them to get stuffed. I’m also awaiting a promo and interview feedback from Google. Any advice?
