They should provide you a loan estimate document. Prepayment penalty should say no.

Don’t get a loan with a prepayment penalty. That being said I have not heard of one anytime recently. I’m sure they won’t be mad at you paying off that juicy 2.5% interest rate when rates increase in a few years.
Never seen a residential mortgage with a prepayment penalty. More common in real investment situations/ distressed lending/ mezzanine loans etc.
Most states require lending institutions include no penalty prepayment clauses in residential transactions.

In this day and age almost every loan would not have prepayment penalty.
