I’d say the jump to Group or ACD is when things start really heating up. While I have a supervisor title I am still the most jr member of my team and get to enjoy that sweet spot. However that’s not always the case. My previous role as a sr AD was a lot more involved (mostly because the sr members of my team weren’t very good managers) so be careful about climbing the corporate ladder
It varies a lot depending on how hands-on/supportive your manager is. When I got promoted from SrAD to AS, I felt no change until my manager left and the person who was hired in their place does way less which means I am doing way more.
The shift into an ACD role tends to be where you start becoming a real manager vs. a do-er and conversely when what made you good at your job ‘til that point, starts to balance out with leadership skills and management which is sometimes not a natural transition.
Obviously some agencies have different job descriptions and expectations but the above has held true in most of my agency experience (20+ years)
I’ve been at a few agencies that don’t have copy supervisors, depends on structure
