I really enjoyed hiking the Inca Trail en route to Machu Picchu. Grueling journey, but so worth it.
Also, love the Samar region of the Philippines. Lots of hidden lagoons and beaches where you're the only person there.
So did I
Puducherry was interesting
Pro
Just the ashram stuff. The scale of it. There was nothing specifically interesting about the physical buildings, just learning the history and seeing it. If you're into the culture there are things you can do there. You can even stay. I just went as something to do and the trip there and back was an adventure. Puducherry was much more interesting. And had the best steak of my life in the French quarter
We toured Greece last spring and besides going to all the famous cities we made a point to find small towns we had never heard of. We found a small run down beautiful coastal town called Kiera on the gulf of Itea gulf. The townspeople treated us so nice, inviting us in their homes and kitchens. One person gave us fresh olives that he had picked from his olive trees/vines . That place left us feeling like we never wanted to leave. The kindness and humanity that these strangers gave us was something we will never forget! We now have friends for life!
Kerala in India was the best kept secret- I never knew about this place until my Indian coworkers told me about this magnificent state in India. From food (they eat beef too) to its smart people and lush greenery, it’s much better than any of the polluted northern Indian states and other South Indian states. My PoV as an American and a Canadian.
Koh Kradan & Sardinia (~1 hour south of Olbia)
My partner and I travelled through Morocco for 3 months with a small backpack each and a folding bikes (we took trains and busses but used the bikes to get around for day to day stuff in Fez, Chefchaouen, Essaouira, and Marrakesh. It was pretty cool, very affordable, and we met tons of interesting locals being on the bikes and living like a local rather than being tourists.
