What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received from an employer? Our Employee Appreciation gift this year was a branded plastic water bottle that leaks if you actually put water in it. I would have honestly preferred nothing at all over a piece of trash that clearly cost the hospital 50 cents.

I interned to a clinic that helped elderly patients. At the end of the year, we celebrated and had a yearly gathering. I was the only male and all the female workers got gift cards and totem bags. Even the female intern got a gift card and a bag. I was given a box of elderly diapers, medical gown, diaper pads gloves and a card that said thank you for helping our patients. I laughed it off but was so angry inside.

I received a plaque that cost about $60 and a really nice golf shirt that was two sizes too small. Oh and I don't golf either.

This gift holds water as well as our current retention policy.

I worked for a company that would give us holiday presents that were obviously things they made for trade shows and couldn't even give away. The most inane was a steel bookmark with the company named stamped into it. It was thick and really heavy and would have broken the spine of any book you tried to use it in.

We got a knock off fit bit when I was in residency. I ended up giving it to one of the kids after they completed a tough treatment. No one ever used it.

I would honestly rather receive nothing than something poorly thought out. It shows more about effort than cost.

They left a bunch of chocolates for us in the break room. The chocolates had expired three months before.

how’s everyone feeling about this?

Quite miffed as I just got a small pay rise and now I think this plus the upcoming not rises in utilities and inflation will pretty much cancel it out.

I just want to say to the Indian managers / SMs etc. stop taking everything so seriously and stressing people out on your teams. I have had managers who put initiative work so high in importance that it stresses me out about client work. Chill out and stop emailing on weekends. Hang out with your families! Doesn’t mean don’t work hard but chill the heck out people. Clearly this is just a job that doesn’t pay you well enough in the first place why are you stressing other people out too?!

I’m maxing out the 6th year for H1b and my I-140 just got approved. 1 month ago, my employer has filed a h1b extension but it is based on the approved PERM instead of the 140, and only asked for one-year extension. In that case, after 6 months (180 days i140 rule to avoid employer’s revoke), will I be able to switch employers even though the renewed H1b gonna expire soon at that time?

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

The position is remote & I’d like $20/hr. I’ve invested in myself as a coach & plan to complete board certification by early 2023
