I'm the cool Manager. I don't care how you do it. I just need results without compromising the company's values, vision and mission. I treat everyone the same and I don't care whether you are born in the 70s or 15 years ago. Everyone is equally the same.
Agree with this, I throw the task out, give general guidance and let them run. Answer any questions they have, preschedule some coaching sessions if I know it’ll require a new skill, or a skill they are a little deficient in, but no matter who it is the best way to get trust is to give trust
I don’t know how to describe my leadership style but I seem to work better with Gen Z than Y. I am Gen X. This is all a very broad generalization of course but I always feel my Ys over analyze everything I say and are more harsh judges of my management capabilities where Zs seem to appreciate my authenticity and my focus on their career and their personal well-being.
Had a gen Z BA get mad at me and reported me to HR months ago for using the term "hey guys" in a meeting. Same BA then asked me for an endorsement to join a high profile engagement. These zoomers need to start living in the real world quickly.
LOL. Something tells me that’s not the only reason you were in HR.

When it comes to Gen-Z, my leadership style is to fight fire with fire.
They want to boycott a client meeting because they feel she made a micro-aggression on the last review call ... I will boycott the f@#$ out of their bonuses 😎
You sound like a peach. No wonder your employees are off track.
Interactional: a mix of transactional and transformational leadership. I’ve dealt with fresh grads to experienced teammates and what I’ve observed with the younger generation is the yearning to know the ‘why’ and the ‘purpose’.
For me, it isn’t difficult. I just listen to understand more. A lot of them are brilliant.
Do you have Gen-Z DRs?
Look at you! ... meeting deadlines and all!!🙌🏼
THANK YOU!!
Leadership style is way more carrot than stick with the firm threat of a stick looming overhead and ready to go at any minute! 😂 And boy have I changed it to accommodate Gen Zs. My manager (Snr VP) decided she was going be my stick last year and force my Gen Z proposal superstar to work through the nights and weekends on a huge proposal, and they immediately took 2 months off with stress (the exact proposal time frame) and pretty much left me screwed. Those days (some might say thankfully) appear to be over at least.
I also find myself coaching them a lot more to make it easier to convince my client to part with ~$2k/day on "kids" who say 'like' and 'literally' every other word and overuse upward inflection in order to try and sound more like educated consultants and less like Love Island contestants.
In fairness, mellenials also use those terms “like” and “literally” and the upward inflection. It takes a few years of confidence and refinement to get to a point where your natural self comes out in the workplace. Don’t get me wrong, still sounds uneducated / cringe af.
I remember I had a problem of using too much slang when I first did my internships, but that was beaten out of me and now I’m able to turn it on and off at will.
I don’t change it much. I try to stay true to myself. I have come to terms that I won’t be liked by everyone and they will not always like my decisions; however, I pay more attention to what they say. I am truly trying to understand their view points. And I am a GenX… they will be the future leaders so I try to influence them now even if they don’t like it.
