Employer match will always go into pre tax bucket. You will be taxed when you withdraw
Interesting…Is that IRS policy? Or do companies have options?
They do not have an option.
There is no mechanism the IRS have created to allow companies to put post-tax money put into Roth.
If it did get introduced, the entire matching contribution would have to be counted as your W2 salary, and the company would have to tax withhold a significant portion of the contribution (as they do for your salary and bonus)
Eg, let’s say you get a 6% match. 2% would be withheld as tax. So only 4% would go into your Roth.
Interesting!
How would they know when you take it out though?
