When someone makes a request that literally can’t be done and you’re calmly explaining why but they just keep cutting you off with “You’re not listening to me!”
Like no, I am listening you’re just asking me to do something I can’t. And interrupting me 6 times isn’t gonna magically change the policy. I’m not risking my job just because you’re yelling louder.

Then it turns into me repeating the rules, them repeating their request.

Anyone else stuck in these “repeat loops” with customers?

Oh, I know about these repeat loops way too well. I recently discovered that if you just let the customer get it all out, and even repeat back to them what they're complaining about to show you heard them, there is a 50% chance that they'll stop once you explain the policy. If they don't, I just say "I hear you, and I wish I could control our company policy, but sadly, I'm not high enough up on the ladder" 🤷

Yep, sometimes just letting them vent does half the job. Wish we had more power to actually change policy though 😅.

Agh, every single time! People only want to hear what suits them, not the actual truth. The moment you say something real, they either get defensive or tune out completely.

Exactly! It’s like they’ve already decided what they wanna hear, and anything else just bounces right off.

I may, or may not, have said on more than one occasion. "aww, you think that corporate cares about what I think" ;)

Haha I’ve definitely had that thought too. We’re just the messengers, not the decision makers!

That type of customer is so exhausting. I'm grateful to have a really awesome manager who is more than happy to take over these calls and set the customer straight.

What do I do?
Just switched to a gud org with gud perk,pay,project work but My boss is the epitome of a**h*** reasons-
Onboarded me on a huge project (12 phase proj) with no KT, only gave docs to read from.
He was handling this proj till phase 4 but has completely withdrawn out without proper transition.
I cannot make decisions and my decisions are overridden by him.
I have 2 yrs experience and it's now my onus to negotiate with PPL in VP,EVP position and also handle testing & dev team.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
