The annual requirement is really irrelevant your first month or two. It’s rare for someone to immediately be on pace given all the admin and integration you have to do when you first arrive.
It really depends. I’ve seen laterals who join during a quiet time, mainly do trainings the first weeks and then get eased into it. So like sub-50 hour months. But I’ve also seen those that bill around 180-200.
I lateral in last week of Sept… first week just training. Oct.. billed 190.
I billed about 80 my first month, 120 my second month, and about 180 my third month. V20 if that matters.
Yep. And I was told that they were expecting it to take several weeks/couple months for me to fully ramp up since I was lateraling in, so I wouldn’t worry too much, even if you haven’t explicitly received the same messaging.
Generally we look at a three month ramp up period. That said, the important part is to ask for work and show an upwards trend in hours.
I think if you build a great first impression in the first few months, it will last a long time. I have always billed 8 hours+ on the first day minimizing training and maximizing billable time and then hitting as many hours as I can the first few months. I’ve always been a strong biller and enjoy my work. It helped me make partner. That said, I have also seen some greedy people with no loyalty. If you work for the right people that will go to bat for you when it matters, go all in. Otherwise, do the minimum.
