Which languages do you use at your job as a software engineer?

Chinese, English, Java, Typescript/HTML (Angular)

funny

Cpp and go

Actually C++ does not count since that was for personal work. So PHP, JavaScript and C#

Klingon

Yeah. You wouldn’t understand

TAL

Java, Scala, Python, bash, typescript (rarely as i avoid anything frontend).
In that order.

Java, JavaScript

I try not to specialize in a specific tool/language. Anything that does the job. Currently C#

Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, YAML, BASH, HTML, CSS, Powershell

C++, Java, Python

SQL, Python, C#

Kotlin

Swift

PHP, React, some vanilla JS, SQL.

Very occasionally Python, Go and shell scripting.

Surprised I don't see much FE stacks:

React, JS, TS, graphql, CSS (Sass, styled component)

Angular v 8 - 14 , vanilla JS , AEM , SASS , nodeJS , Java (spring boot)

I used to write code in my native language (not English) because it was easier to name things without worrying about reserved keywords.

My company is adopting Scrum and hiring a bunch of agile coaches to assist with sprints. We got assigned our agile coach that'll be starting soon.

I read a description of what this role is supposed to be for and it sounds like they'll be leading Scrum ceremonies. So they run the planning meeting, the retrospective and daily stand ups. Up to now, I've been doing those and it's taken a total of like 2 hours a week of my time.

What on earth do agile coaches do with the other 95% of their time?

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

I'm hiring and I've just learned that my HR department is screening candidates by asking them about very specific functions and frameworks.

"Can you describe your experience using Element#remove()?"

"Can you describe your experience migrating from X framework to Y framework?"

We don't use Y framework and have no plans to use Y framework in the foreseeable future. I also don't expect candidates to have all functions memorized. How on Earth did they find out about Y framework!? 🙄🫣

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? Upon starting this job a couple of weeks ago, I discovered between the time I interviewed and my start date they had hired a new CEO, laid off all of their off-shore teams, changed my position to a new hiring manager, and added an on-call rotation to all engineering teams. None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.

Hi guys, I’m debating switching careers. I’m currently a mortgage loan officer but I’m very interested in SE. My degree is in finance. There’s a coding bootcamp near me called Boca Code that’s supposed to be top notch. I’m curious for feedback on 1. Are coding bootcamps actually a way into the industry like they’re marketed? And 2. What is a realistic starting salary for entry level SE? I’ve read and been told 90k, but that seems high.

So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
