One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). Recently joined a project that’s been in flight for long time. Onboarding hasn’t been great, not sure who my Point of contact is, where we are in the process (since they started such a long time ago and the SoW is outdated by at least 2 years), what the objectives are for this phase of work. Manager sort of just says things that suggests I should know, which deters me from asking Qs. They recently came across as a bit annoyed when I’d ask a few Qs. So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
