Strategy& fish - i’m currently recruiting for org strategy. Ive talked to associates (in the healthcare practice) and theyve mentioned that it doesnt matter whether youre in corp strategy, org strategy, etc and that you’re pretty much pooled by industry when it comes to staffing.

That is the exact opposite of what I would say lol. Org strategy is a small team, like 60 people are something, and we work across industries all the time. We definitely work with other S& teams, we have to bc we are so small, but it absolutely does matter if you’re org strategy vs corporate strategy, etc.
I really don’t know know why ppl would have given you that feedback but I’ve been here 6 years and that’s not how I’ve seen it work
Because for my practice we do the op model for the CFO’s “org”. And also, the S& person i talked to said she did an op model project for the COO org.
It seems though the group just does highlevel full organization design
I’m not in org strategy, but my understanding is that OWT is a unified team across all verticals, including S& and MC people.
However… I think that’s about to change in our July 1 reorganization. On the IPS call earlier this week, Jenny said that the OWT team would probably be disbanded as a separate thing, and folks put in the new Transformation platform (which is where most S& and MC folks are going).
It seems we’ll still have our competencies (Corp and Bus Strategy, Tech Strategy, Org Strategy, etc) and will have some sector-designations (but broad industry verticals are going away).
My sense is, the firm is trying to be less religious about industry verticals, while still allowing a degree of specialization.
My understanding is that, pre-OWT, org structure folks existed in both S& and MC. When OWT was implemented, all of those org people got put into it, leaving their former industry verticals behind (for the most part).
I think what’s happening now is that’s essentially being reversed as part of the July 1 reorg. OWT will cease to exist, and org people will mostly end up in the new Transformation platform. However, I think there will still be S& and MC—it’s not that all org people aren’t becoming one or the other.
I disagree with S&1. I was in healthcare / org strategy and never once was assigned to a cross-industry project; only healthcare, ever. Different people have different experiences. Yes, perhaps if you’ve been there 6 years, that’s your experience, but it’s not everyone’s experience.
OP- DM me if you want more info.
I didn’t mean to come off as rude at all. My point was that people that have been there longer (like you) could have had your experience, but it’s not the same for some that were part of S& for a shorter amount of time. I left before the latest reorg, so if things have completely changed now, i wouldn’t know.
I was giving OP a different perspective from my experience in org strat, and specifically, in HIA.
