Because y'all waste our tax dollars
In the private world we have deadlines that actually have to be met, and budgets are real. As a fed contractor it's the same way, but the fed/state/local FTEs never seem to have deadlines or deliverables, just changing requirements and NO urgency to actually accomplish anything. 10 years of gov contracting here.
Personally, the fed work I experienced was staff aug. and I found the work/clients quite boring. Don't hate on fed folks; however, I know that it's not for me.
You give up the glam of the travel life for a stable schedule and work hours. Unfortunately the work is often boring.
Why does everyone think Fed consultants work 40 and go home? I consistently work 60/week and more during proposals.i haven't figured out where this 9-5 actually is.
I'm with you d2. I feel like if I work this much I might as well switch to commercial and get paid like it but D doesn't make that easy...
I started in fed and am now commercial. The work is close to the same but in fed you're missing a lot of the egos. I never did staff aug in fed.
I have deliverables.... (fed consultant)
Cause we wish we were you (but seriously. Girl in commercial here/been at fed agenda for four years with fed background). Seeming to be damn near impossible to make fed happen for me
Why is the work boring?
Why do you think that? They are very different jobs, that's the difference, there is no hate though
This generalization is simply that. I have been on countless project in commercial where my work has become shelfware. Feds have some lifers that just don't give a fuck. They also sometimes struggle with recruiting because of brand and pay scale so pool of resources they can't cut it. I mean they also get really smart people but those people believe in mission. 80-20 rule on that. People tell themselves about work and excitement though at the end of the day we are all solving problems.
