Live outside Knoxville, TN... own home on an acre lot, 2400 as ft, $1350 mortgage. Best idea to move away from the larger cities. However, early days with the firm outside DC, paid $1450 for 1 room of a 2 bedroom townhouse.
Before move:
-San Francisco 2016 - $3960 750 sqft 1BR/1BA on 40th floor with water, gas, and one parking spot included. Located in soma/fidi. This was actually a deal.
After move:
Austin 2016- $1950 1600 sq ft 3BR/2BA. No utilities included, but parking is free and utilities end up being about $200 per month. Located in southwest/oak hill area. Brand new units.
Own 2 bed in Chicago. Out of pocket per month is $450

A lot of Arlingtonions in here. Why do you guys choose to live there vs DC? Realized prices aren’t even much better in some areas. Ballston and Rosslyn can be equally expensive and there is def not as much to do. I lived in Arlington for a bit and made the move to DC. Wish I had done it from the get go. So much more to do and the scene is just so much better. Arlington seemed so...fratty.
$3k in DC for a 1br? That’s dumb af lol. Way too much for no reason.
$300 single room in Bay Area, living with family
