Why do recruiters and hiring managers prioritize company knowledge over actual talent? Most corporate sites are so vague, but you'll still get judged for not being prepared. To me, it feels like a test to see if you can fake enthusiasm for jargon only insiders understand. Why do we have to do this song & dance instead of just talking about the job?

Did these interviewers previously work for the CIA or something? I get asked "so what do you know about *company*?" pretty regularly, but I've never been grilled on the subject. Probably because knowing the company inside and out doesn't matter nearly as much as your background and experience.

I do wonder if it's a way to gauge how long of an intro they have to give you?

A recruiter once told me they do this to level the playing field. Not everyone comes from the same background, but everyone can spend an hour researching the company. It is less about insider jargon and more about whether you can speak their language enough to collaborate with the team.

I agree with you. I think company knowledge is often used as a proxy for enthusiasm and compliance, not capability. It feels performative. I would rather talk about how I solve problems than recite vague values from a website.

NFT’s... no interest in buying them but very interested in buying into whatever it is that makes tick. I think there’s a lot of money to be made off of such a ridiculous investment. Any ideas on what to buy to take part in the business of NFT’s, without having to pay $69 million for a drawing of a cat?
