My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India

It would be pretty random. If you were to return, I wouldn’t expect to receive a clerkship bonus or class year credit. Have you talked to any trusted mentors at your firm about it?
Assuming you’re referring to AD1, a conversation with your practice group leader before making the move would be helpful. The workload is not light but depends on the judge you’re with, and they have court attorneys handling cases. If the firm agrees to take you back after the clerkship, I see no downside in doing it.
Depends what your current practice area is. Are you otherwise a very strong associate with good credentials?
General lit, good credentials, not very strong. To the last point also wondering what a lateral market would look like that at that time after clerking but I suppose I can’t predict what the hiring market will look like then
Granted I don’t work in BigLaw, but I don’t see how an appellate clerkship at any level would not be an asset to any law firm. I would think your current firm would give you a leave of absence to do it.

I think the challenge might be that it doesn’t help much with trial work, and it’s not fancy enough to qualify you for big law appellate groups.
