I did. Then went back into consulting when preschool cost $2200 / month.
$2,200 / month!!!!
I’m about to take a 15% cut but looking forward to gaining like 40% of my life back. The door back to consulting is always open in my opinion, basically what BCG1 did.
move to industry. do your research and find out what your real options are. don't assume you have to compromise
It’s remarkable how little people work in industry. Depending on the level, you can leave with a similar level of comp. only issue is your trajectory will likely stagnate. But I have friends and neighbors who work at home 3 days a week, travel maybe once a quarter to a conference, manage projects or operations. The one thing is these jobs are much more political that ours at lower levels. Be ready for that.
I did this. Except I didn’t take a pay cut. I took a pay increase. And I have regretted it ever since. Going back into consulting soon and taking another pay increase. Why would anyone ever take a pay cut? Also flexible hours and no travel isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. These industry jobs are not training and development focused and can be rather boring. Good if you’re looking to wind down. But if you’re looking for a better career trajectory I would stay with consulting. But do what you gotta do !
