Would you represent a family member in front of an ALJ who was facing discipline against their medical license?

Nope. When I was in private practice as a junior healthcare attorney I did some regulatory work for a partner that did these licensure issues (usually assigned from malpractice insurance companies) so I could do it. But I wouldn’t do it for family. I’d tell them to call their malpractice insurance carrier and get a referral.

No chance. Refer them to a specialist who won’t have to wrestle with any family relationship issues. My Cousin Vinny aside, representing relatives in a high consequence matter is always a bad idea.

like

Only if defending doctors against discipline charges is your specialty, and even there I would hesitate because if things go wrong, it might create problems in your family relationship, so it might be best to refer them to someone else who you know is good.

I am looking for a new job at the end of a long career. I have excellent experience in IP and Supply Chain Management. I've been fortunate to be in a high-paying position in the Los Angeles area and I rarely see comparable positions posted. The comparable positions at my company are filled by one of the big executive search firms. Any recommendations for finding the rare executive-level legal positions or for landing on the radar of the big executive search firms would be much appreciated!

It's so hard to not stress over this daily.

An accrual based C-Corp taxpayer completed a Chapter 11 reorganization and converted a total of $1M A/P to suppliers into a $410K LT note (a $590K liability reduction). Should we view this $590K as the Sec. 108(a)(1)(A) excludable income? After reading through IRS Pub 4681, I think it makes sense to view the $590 as "Reduced Price After Purchase", but not

Thoughts on sending out assignments over the weekend? I work a lot on weekends, but I don’t expect associates too. But, because I work on weekends, I often will send out assignments by email with a clear indication in subject line and body that it does not need to be completed or worked on over the weekend. A friend recently mentioned this isn’t the best since seeing the assignment may create unnecessary stress and anxiety. So, what say you? Am I terrible partner?

Hey so just to check on my part. I worked at a place where we went to a firm happy hour and women attorneys were there. A picture was passed around of a really hot woman on Instagram who they are oggled , later after the woman left some guy talked about all the quote whores he slept with. The women weren't sex workers presumably. I'm a male this behavior seems inappropriate to me and made me uncomfortable. Am I expected to exhibit this level of 1950s machismo in my day-to-day life?
