Yes, your mental health is important.
If a manager wants to make it bad for you, they can and they will. What's the point if stepping down? You have no Guarantee it will get better. Look for other options inside/ outside your org.
Stepping down will be hard to explain when interviewing for new opportunities and might lock you into that lower role in a new firm.
Suggest you grit your teeth, stay there but work to get out ASAP.
This is the right move. It’s better to transition jobs coming from a higher role than a lower role. Tough it out for some more time without stepping down and find a new job.
If you can afford it, do it. And respectfully decline training the replacement. That is no longer your responsibility. And don’t feel bullied or pressured by your supervisor to help out with it, even if you feel bad.
Rest. You deserve it!

I don't think toxicity goes away if you just step down. The toxic person will just have even more power over you. How's the HR there?
Not great, HR will go to her directly and let her know everything that was said. HR is for the company, not its people
1. Start looking for another job.
2. Step down but say it’s due to personal or health reasons
3. Get another offer and dip
Sounds like the situation I am in at work. I have a Branch manager over me and things are awful at our bank. I'm currently on leave because of it
Focus in you & your mental health.
Document and ensure you are being treated fairly. Seek guidance from an employment attorney. If you are being treated unfairly because of a protected status (over 40, identify as a woman, ethnicity, etc) then work with your attorney to send HR an email. This email will prompt an investigation which will put you in non-retaliation status. It’s time to work smart aka know your rights.
Wow. Good for u!! Sounds like a good move
Go on short term disability bc of a hostile work environment and added stress that is depilitating. Look for a new role while on STD.
Or try to get severed and negotiate a package.
Do you have the option to move laterally and go to a different team? Department?
No, nothing has been open for months. Not even Customer Service
