AC is a tough role, you’d be expected to be hands on with all analysis and work, good thing is that rn majority of the firm is underutilized so you’ll have a good few months to onboard yourself unless your project is tough

like

If a PhD has never been put in front of a client like that then I’d hesitate to have them as a C tbh. This is the business world - it’s going to be different and we want to make sure you’re positioned for success.

PhDs frankly for us have been hit or miss. All the best. Average is 50 hrs/week. Nice people. Collaborative culture. Local model. No Tue-Thu travel model —> aka can sleep in your own bed most of the nights. Fractional staffing model i.e. you will work on more than 1 project at a time. Boston office location is nice. Downtown 28th floor.

The ‘hit or miss’ belief is actually a myth that we’re trying to bust! I was on a team that looked at our data and found PhDs do quite well at ZS as a group, which is why we’ve increased our hiring numbers significantly in the past ~year.

like

You should have come as a consultant, you were under hired. If you have a PhD you should be a C. I’ve seen masters students come as ACs
Worth asking around

like

It’s possible to be a PhD with significant work experience and come in as a manager or even a principal, but in that case your leveling wouldn’t really have anything to do with your PhD. Historically, the majority of PhDs have come in as ACs; I’ve looked at the data so I know this is true. Like I said, this has been changing recently and there are specific circumstances under which PhDs can be considered for a C level hire.

I’d be happy to chat about WLB and culture as a PhD if you want to DM me!

ACs clock between 50 to 60 hrs a week

I don’t think charging more hours is necessarily favored (most of my projects are fixed rate, so we aren’t earning more), but getting more work done is definitely favored.
Regardless, you can be highly valued without working so many hours.

what is your practice area? This does matter. I am new as well but I am actually working with no one from the same office.

Not many people in the same practice area as mine are located in bos

What process have you gone through already? Is it only on the offering stage? no written offer? just verbal compromise?

A partner called me and said they’d be extending an offer

There is none (WLB)

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!
