Yeah I’m not sure what I would make of the trio thing except maybe assuming one of the writers was expendable. If you guys like eachother and want to test the waters, try a place like funny or die or a content agency where you just concept and produce
I would be extremely hesitant to hire a writing team unless they were at the creative director. Not because they wouldn’t be able to think on a campaign level, but they would be naturally exempt from making and designing their ideas to the fullest. We just don’t have the resources to continuously drag a studio person or junior AD in to help be a wrist for people.
Don’t get me wrong, this would be my dream pairing. There’s a reason that television uses writers to drive the story telling and art directors basically dress the sets. I just don’t think the ad world is set up for that kind of pairing given the realities of making decks and boarding and selling work. I’ll call you when I start my own place though 🤓
Art direction is dying so I guess this will be possible soon.
@CD1 fair, fair. Figured it was worth asking/exploring
@CD1 I feel you. That makes total sense. The funny or die route is def an option to explore. I just enjoy getting paid is all haha
I get a that. I have a AD guy that I wish we could work together as well. But I genuinely think that art directors doesn't actually craft stuff nowadays. Just decks.
Senior art director 1, why do u say art direction is dying?
The way things will look rely more on production this days. And with tech and digita doesnt matter a lot
Not long ago,AD’s were also pretty damn good writers so in essence you had two writers. Today, most young ADs have design skills but are sorely lacking in thinking conceptual. A stunt is not a concept.
@CD1, yeah that was going to be my follow-up question, if a trio (writer, writer, AD) team was a possibility. But I guess resourcing is always a bitch to begin with
@SAD1 nah, man. I’m not saying I dislike working with ADs, I’m just saying I have a specific creative writer partner that I gel super well with
I know of a team, and they’re great, but always rely on designers comping their shit.
There is also a lack of conceptual opportunities. Everyone just wants a one shot thing.
