Also -- if you think you're too cool for AA, you're not. David Bowie was in program. Are you cooler than him?
Also -- you know this, but it's a long haul. This is about making better life decisions, being healthier and having a more structured life. Don't expect a magic bullet or pill that cures everything. You were great and dedicated at being a drunk. Do the same with sobriety.
Treat it like your life depends on it. For me, it did. First three months, I did nothing but work and meetings. Boot camp. Get a sponsor, work the steps, buy the ticket, take the ride. If it all sounds cliched, it's because it's worked for millions.
If you're in AA, do all the stuff they tell you to do. Meetings, sponsor, service, steps. Let your life just be meetings/AA and work for a year. It will open up and be more later, I promise.
Real, tangible things I do - I tell a friend about accomplishments. "X weeks man, it's going well, down x pounds." And so on. He is simply a sounding board. He types back a congrats or great. Nice of him to check in.
Daily- I literally cross off dates on a calendar. On a physical paper calendar. It's the best when I've forgot to cross off a few days, or after long weekend. Instant self-pride. It's satisfying. Something just for me.

How's it going for you OP?
@72S2 I think almost 3 months going strong at this point! Thanks everyone for the words. So far so good, but could be going to more meetings.
Be open and honest with yourself and other people. The Shame is what will fuck you and lead to relapse. Life is fucking hard. And it doesn't get easier. So there will be shitty shitty days. Don't be naive and think that life will be incredible if you're sober. It'll still be hard, but you won't turn it into a complete train wreck. And you'll actually enjoy the person you are... oh, and ask for help. Even if it's stupid shit.
Get a sponsor (if you're in AA)
@72 those last lines hit me deep. Thanks.
I didn't think I was bad enough to be in AA so I lied about my experience making it worse than it was... After a year 1/2 sober, I went back out...made most of those lies true unfortunately. Started again, and now have 15 years. Advice, be brutally honest. Learning to trust someone at that level was scary but eventually healing. My sponsor asked me what I wanted out of this and I said I want the voices to stop. He said ok immediately, what else? I was so angry and stubborn, I was out to prove him wrong. He was right. Still stubborn, but no longer angry. Actually pretty happy! Humbled and grateful.
If you feel like you need to leave work early or in the middle of the day - to go to a meeting - then do it!
