Yeah due mid-ish levels are always hot. You’re the coal chuckers of the law firm world - little billing machines. Just enjoy it and stop over analyzing it.
3rd to 6th year is the best time for law practice imo. That is the time you are most profitable too. You have enough experience to be billed at reasonably high rate (with limited supervision) and your salary is reasonably low. Associates are usually loss center in the first year and break even by second year. So firms like that level of experience. You are also proving yourself if you desire to become a partner. So, those associates tend to work hard.

I agree with the others. Go where you’re wanted. Take the money. There’s no way to know one of the places is bad until you’re inside.
Look at turnover at the firms, are you afraid the firm coming at you hard has hidden red flags?
That associate is trying to warn you discreetly I imagine since they are a current associate.
