Which industry doesn’t interest you? You are making a comp of a mid level engineer in nvidia. You may not have the skills to exit to industry that pays much higher than that, but “industry” is a lot bigger than you think. Google can absorb all of pwc in one org.
Again people have to realize “industry” is not a monolith like consulting
I think you could make comparable TC at Director level M&A role depending on the company/industry, but yeah it might be difficult in Corp Finance/Accounting to reach that level
Sounds like you should make the jump to PE Ops or to a PE PortCo in a senior role. F500 Corporate Strategy and Development roles pay well too, but upside is more limited. On the other hand, they have better WLB. I don’t think you’ll take a major paycut. At most, you might take a 5-10% paycut initially, but as others have said, once you start getting equity, you’ll likely be making more than if you stayed in consulting. You’re too senior to make the jump to a traditional investing role. I’d leave now because 7 years is already a lot of experience for consulting. You’ve likely gotten everything you can out of it. What you need now is to prove that you can move from someone who advises to someone who can actually execute on the strategies he talks about. More years in consulting won’t help you do that
Yea this all makes sense. Feel like I should look to really educate myself on these options
What level in consulting? Are you Stratey& or PwC? Really good comp for 7 years.
S& Manager, the 350k is including bonus. Luckily the 10pm+ nights earned me a T1

I think it’ll be helpful for you if you try and educate yourself a little bit on the various types of roles available
Something you should consider is business strategy, and operations roles in industry
Director level easily get to comparable total compensation
I used to think the same way as you did and had similar preconceived notions that I would either need to down Level or take a comp hit when I left consulting
Reality is I was unaware and in industry compensation structure is different from consulting with stock grants etc which add up over time
So you could have a slightly lower base but still have over total composition or comparable total compensation
Damn 350 is amazing!!
What do you want out of your life and career?
